Denby's Home Run Lifts Alabama State Softball Past Jackson State

MONTGOMERY, AL | Alexia Denby belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning to lift Alabama State University softball to a 3-1 win over Jackson State University on Friday. 

Sophomore Kohana Pouson (7-10) got the win out of the bullpen for Alabama State (12-28, ). The right-hander went 3.2 shutout innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out three.

Offensively, the Hornets were paced by senior Alexia Denby, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Junior Brooke Ramsey compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Alabama State scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Denby. The score remained 3-1 for the rest of the game, as the Hornets held on for the win.

Jackson State loaded the bases in the top of the seventh only to see Pouson strike out the final two batters to close the win.
