MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University softbal captured a 5-2 in the nightcap to split a doubheader with Jackson State University on Saturday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. Jackson State won game one 10-2.

MONTGOMERY, AL --The Alabama State Hornets struggled on Saturday, falling to the Jackson State Tigers by final score of 10-2.
Senior Ashley Pye (0-4) got the ball to start for Alabama State (12-29, ) and took the loss. Freshman Kaitlyn Hill was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by sophomore Mickey Coslor, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Coslor came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Hornets deficit grew to 10-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Junior Alana Scott came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the score to 10-2 in favor of the Tigers. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Alabama State Hornets took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Jackson State Tigers on Saturday.
Freshman Kaitlyn Hill (2-9) got the win for Alabama State (13-29, ). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out one. Sophomore Kohana Pouson also pitched well, going 1.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning.
The Hornets then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Tigers cut it to 3-1. Alabama State picked up a run on senior Zoee Disroe's two-out solo home run off of freshman Madison McDowell, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Alabama State kept Jackson State scoreless before expanding their lead to 5-1 the following inning. The Hornets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Brooke Ramsey. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State coasted to the win.
