Alabama State Softball Splits Doubleheader with rival AAMU

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama State University grabbed an 8-1 win in game one before falling 3-1 in the nightcap of a doublehader on Thursday..

GAME 1 | Alabama State 8, Alabama A&M 2

HUNTSVILLE, AL | Alabama State University softball took a 6-0 lead in the second inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to an 8-2 victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Thursday.

Freshman M. Quinnie (5-8) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (14-30, 12-7). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.

At the plate, the Hornets were led by junior B. Ramsey, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Junior A. Scott furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Senior L. Richardso also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Scott.

The Bulldogs then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-2 until the Hornets expanded their advantage in the sixth. Alabama State picked up two runs when a single from Ramsey scored freshman J. Terrell and Scott, which brought the Hornets lead to 8-2. The score remained 8-2 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State coasted to the win.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State came up short, fallng 3-1 to Alabama A&M in game two of a twinbill on Thursday at the AAMU softball field.

Freshman K. Hill (29-21) got the ball to start for Alabama State (14-31, 12-8) and took the loss. Sophomore K. Pouson was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 4.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State got an RBI single from junior A. Scott, scoring freshman J. Terrell from first base. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
