Alabama State Softball Claims 12-3 win to Win Alabama A&M Series

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State University softbal pounded out 15 hits to down Alabama A&M University 12-3 to win the series on Friday.

The Hornets claimed their fourth SWAC straight series win and will host Florida A&M for its final home series of the year. 

Ja"Niyan Boykin led Alabama State with three hits while four others had two its apieace. ASU had nine players collect at least one hit on the afternoon.

Freshman Kaitlyn Hill (3-9) got the win for Alabama State (15-31, 13-8). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Ramsey went 1-for-4 with a triple in addition to her four RBIs for the Hornets. Junior A. Scott furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman J. Terrell also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Ramsey.

The Hornets then held the Bulldogs scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Junior J. Boykin came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Hornets.

Alabama A&M narrowed Alabama State's lead to 6-2 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the sixth inning.

Alabama State kept the Bulldogs scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Hornets scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of senior L. Richardso, bringing the score to 12-2 in favor of Alabama State. Alabama A&M put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still coasted to the 12-3 win.
