Late Rally Comes Up Short Hornets Loss to Miss. Valley

Alabama State trailed 8-0 until the fifth inning before scoring four in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-5. That is as close as the Hornets would climb as MVSU held ASU scoreless over the final three innings.

Senior Kyler McIntosh (3-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (21-20, ). Junior Will Bartkoski was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going four shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking one and striking out five.

In addition to his three hits, Landry had a double to lead the Hornets. Sophomore Juan Cruz compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Fabian Santana also contributed for Alabama State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 8-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Santana.

The Hornets kept the Delta Devils off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. Junior Kelvin Agosto came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which tightened the Delta Devils lead to 8-5. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
