MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University softball split a doubheader with Florida A&M University winning game on 9-7 before dropping game two 7-2 on Satuday.
Game 1 | Alabama State 9, FAMU 7
MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Alabama State Univeristy softball team rallied from a 6-0 deficit for a 9-7 win over Florid A&M University in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Freshman Kaitlyn Hill (4-11) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Alabama State (16-32, 14-8). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 6-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a one-run strikeout off the bat of freshman Jaibriel Terrell.
The Rattlerettes broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fifth inning, when the Hornets got back on the scoreboard. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Talee Sims, which brought the score level at 7-7.
That 7-7 tie turned into a 9-7 Alabama State lead in the sixth. The Hornets notched two runs when a single from senior Leah Richardson brought home junior Alana Scott and Terrell. The score remained 9-7 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Alabama State Hornets had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to the Florida A&M 7-2 in the night cap of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Freshman Mason Quinnie (5-8) got the ball to start for Alabama State (16-33, 14-9) and took the loss. Sophomore Kohana Pouson was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 6.1 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by senior Zoee Disroe, who went 1-for-2 on the day with an RBI. Freshman Meshayla Pettaway furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Sophomore Mickey Coslor came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Hornets deficit grew to 7-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Disroe, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Rattlerettes. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
