MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Senior Kyler McIntosh and sophomore Isaiah Landry each collected three hits, but the Alabama State University baseball fell to the Texas Southern 4-3 on Saturday.
Senior Kyrin Long (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (23-22, ). Freshman Trey Power was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.2 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out one.
Landry's three-hit day led the Hornets offensively. McIntosh added two doubles, a walk and an RBI to his three-hit performance as well. Senior DeMarckus Smiley also contributed for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Alabama State scored twice in the inning on back-to-back run-scoring doubles from McIntosh and Smiley.
After the Tigers rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the fifth inning. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Kameron Douglas, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Hornets. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Texas Southern scored two times over the remaining four innings to grab the 4-3 win.
