Bama State Baseball Scores 38 runs in Doubleheader Sweep of AAMU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball scored 38 runs to sweep a doubleheader and the three-game sereis from against Alabama A&M University on Ssturday the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Alabama State came from behind in both games of the twinbill to post the two wins by the scores of 13-10 and 25-9.


GAME 1 | Alabama State 13, Alabama A&M 10
MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Junior Kelvin Agosto racked up four RBI to help lead the Alabama State Hornets past the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 13-10 on Saturday.

Sophomore Jafet Martinez (4-3) got the win out of the bullpen for Alabama State (15-17, ). The right-hander went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.

Agosto went 3-for-5 with a home run in addition to his four RBIs for the Hornets. Sophomore Juan Cruz put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Junior Luke Parmentier also contributed for Alabama State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Alabama State got an RBI single from junior Kameron Douglas, scoring Cruz from second base.

The Hornets kept the deficit at 5-1 before taking the lead in the fifth. The Alabama State offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Agosto and a two-run single from Cruz, which brought the score to 9-5 in favor of the Hornets.

Alabama A&M narrowed Alabama State's lead to 9-8 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 13-8 in the seventh inning. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of senior Mikel Pryor and a two-run home run from Agosto. Alabama A&M put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Alabama State still held on for the 13-10 win.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Senior Kyler McIntosh racked up four hits to help lead the Alabama State Hornets past the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 25-9 on Saturday.

McIntosh (2-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Alabama State (16-17, ). The right-hander went 2.1 shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out one.

In addition to his four hits, McIntosh had a double, a walk and three RBI to lead the Hornets. Junior Kelvin Agosto compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and six RBI. Freshman Alex Espaillat also helped out for Alabama State, putting together three hits in six trips to the plate while adding a double, a triple and five RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Agosto and a two-run double from Espaillat.

The Hornets then held the Bulldogs scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. which brought the score to 9-3 in favor of the Hornets.

Alabama A&M narrowed Alabama State's lead to 9-4 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 13-4 in the fourth inning. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of sophomore Juan Cruz.

The Bulldogs fought back, closing the gap to 13-9 until Alabama State added some insurance in the fifth. The Hornets scored nine runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Agosto and a two-run single from junior Luke Parmentier, bringing the Alabama State advantage to 22-9.

The Hornets kept Alabama A&M without a run before expanding their lead to 25-9 the following inning. The score remained 25-9 for the rest of the game, as the Hornets coasted to the win.
