Alabama State Blanks Prairie View A&M 11-0 in Dominant SWAC Victory

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas |  Alabama State University delivered a complete team performance Thursday afternoon, shutting out Prairie View A&M 11-0 in a seven-inning run-rule win at Tankersly Field.

The Hornets improved to 28-27 overall and 20-9 in SWAC play, while Prairie View fell to 17-35 (13-13 SWAC).

The Hornets came out swinging, scoring three runs in each of the first three innings to build a 9-0 cushion by the end of the third. Outfielder Kelvin Agosto ignited the offense with a solo home run in the first, part of a 2-RBI day for the senior. Juan Cruz continued his scorching season at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and a sacrifice fly, pushing his batting average to an impressive .420.

Wilbert Espinal added a two-run homer, his 12th of the season, and Alex Espaillat contributed a pair of RBI with a two-hit performance. Fabian Santana also had a standout game behind the plate, scoring twice, driving in a run, and swiping two bases.

On the mound, starter Jorhan Laboy (7-2) was in full command, allowing just one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings while striking out four. Jafet Martinez closed out the seventh with a clean inning, sealing the shutout.

Prairie View's offense never found a rhythm, managing just two hits in the game – singles by Ahmar Donatto and Mac Bowie.

PV Starter Kamar Dove (2-3) struggled from the outset, surrendering six runs (five earned) over two innings and taking the loss.

The Hornets' aggressive base running was also on display, swiping six bases without being caught, and their defense remained flawless with no errors committed.

Alabama State and Prairie View close out the series with a single game on Friday at noon.
