BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State University's baseball team saw its 2025 season come to a heart-wrenching end on Friday afternoon, falling 8-7 in a 10-inning thriller to Bethune-Cookman in an elimination game at the SWAC Baseball Championship at historic Rickwood Field.
In a back-and-forth battle that featured late-inning heroics and gritty performances on both sides, the Hornets led for much of the game, only to see Bethune-Cookman rally with five runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Alabama State clawed back to tie the game with a run in the top of the ninth, but the Wildcats walked it off in the 10th with a two-out RBI single by Daniel Figueroa.
Senior outfielder
Kelvin Agosto led the Hornets' offense, going 2-for-5 with three runs scored, including a triple and a stolen base.
Kameron Douglas blasted his 17th home run of the season and drove in two runs, while
Devin Chandler and
DeMarckus Smiley each added key RBIs to keep Alabama State in the fight.
Starting pitcher
Shadai Colon delivered a strong performance through six innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. However, the Wildcats took advantage of walks, hit batters, and key errors in the later innings to shift momentum.
Despite the loss, Alabama State outhit Bethune-Cookman 12-7 and showed tremendous resilience throughout the game. The Hornets finish the season with an overall record of 31-29.
The Hornets close the season with a 31-29 record while Bethune-Cookman advances to the SWAC Championship game on Sunday.
