MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State women's soccer came up short Friday evening, dropping a 6-0 decision to Jacksonville State at the ASU Soccer Complex. The match was the first of a five-match homestand for the Hornets.
The Gamecocks (5-2-2) took control early, with Amelia Jacobs scoring twice in the opening 16 minutes. Lily Cornwell added another in the 37th to give Jacksonville State a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Alabama State regrouped after the break but JSU kept the pressure on. Emma Reeder scored twice in the second half, while Jacobs completed her hat trick in the 53rd minute.
The Hornets battled throughout, with Corrine Brookes collecting six saves in goal to withstand a 21-shot attack from Jacksonville State. On the other end, Alabama State managed five shots, with Adriana Gallucci collecting two shots while Jenna Scholz, Queenster Mensah, Serenity Safeeullah collecting one each.
Jacksonville State held a 55–45 edge in possession and finished with 12 shots on goal to Alabama State's two.
Alabama State will host Nicholls State Sunday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
