ASU Volleyball Ends Furman Invite Against North Florida

Morgan Named to the All-Tournament Team

Greenville, S.C. – Alabama State fought hard but came up short in a 3–1 loss to North Florida on Saturday afternoon at Alley Gymnasium in ASU's final match of the Furman Invitational. The Hornets dropped the match by scores of 20–25, 21–25, 25–20, and 25–27.

Jyriah Morgan once again led the Hornets with a team and match-high 13 kills on 25 total attempts for a .440 hitting percentage. Taylor Williams chipped in with 9 kills, 12 digs, and 2 blocks. Kamrynn Clay recorded 27 assists, while Sierra Scanlan dished out 14 assists and nine digs. Kaylen Hines joined Essence Jones with seven kills, while Hines also had four total blocks.

After falling behind two sets, the Hornets battled back with a strong third-set win behind balanced offense and timely defense, holding North Florida to just a .057 hitting percentage in the frame. However, North Florida answered in the fourth, pulling away late to secure the victory.

Despite the loss, Alabama State matched North Florida nearly point for point, finishing with 44 kills, 49 digs, and 12 total team blocks compared to UNF's 55 kills, 53 digs, and 12.5 blocks.

Morgan finished the tournament with 38 kills, averaging almost 13 per match and over three per set. For her efforts she was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hornets will be back in action for the Pelican Invitational, Sept. 18-20 in New Orleans.
