ATHENS, Ga. - Alabama State University's Jyriah Morgan finished with a team and match-high 19 kills, but the Hornets came up short in a close and hard-fought four-set loss to Texas Tech Friday afternoon at the Stegeman Coliseum in ASU's final match of the Georgia Invitational.
ASU won the opening set 25-23, but the Red Raiders responded with three straight wins (25-14, 25-22, 25-22) to close out the match.
Morgan paced Alabama State with 19 kills and added four digs, while Kaylen Hines contributed nine kills and along with Morgan had a team-high three block assists. Setter Sierra Scanlan directed the offense with 22 assists and chipped in 13 digs for a double-double. Defensively, libero Trinity Mitchell anchored the back row with a match-high 12 digs, while Zanobia Willis picked up three blocks as the Hornets had 10 total blocks compared to eight for the Red Raiders.
ASU will be back in action at the Furman Invitational (Sept. 11-13) where they will face Furman, Winthrop and North Florida.
