ASU Soccer Falls at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Alabama State University women's soccer came up short on the road Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 to West Georgia at University Field.

The Wolves struck early in the 18th minute when Rachel Higgins found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. West Georgia added to its lead just before halftime, as Katherine Hagans converted a penalty kick in the 42nd minute to make it 2-0.

The Hornets generated nine shots in the match, with four on target, led by Emmanuella Yapi's three attempts. Jordan Williams, Zeta Chevalier, and Queenster Mensah also tested the Wolves' defense with shots on goal, but West Georgia goalkeeper Emily Sanabria made four saves to preserve the shutout.

Hornets goalkeeper Corrine Brookes kept her side within reach, tallying seven saves while facing 22 total shots from the Wolves' attack.

Despite out-fouling West Georgia 13-12 and picking up a yellow card in the first half, Alabama State continued to battle in the second half, holding the Wolves scoreless after halftime.

ASU will begin a five-match home stand beginning on Friday, Sept. 12, when they host Jacksonville State at 6 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
