HOUSTON, Texas | Tyler Byrd and Jerquarius Stanback combined to score 42 total points, but the Alabana State University men's basketball fell to the Texas Southern, 96-64, on the road Tuesday.
Byrd led the Hornets (6-14, 3-4) with 29 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Stanback tacked on 13 points and six rebounds and Jasteven Walker chipped in as well with seven points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Led by Stanback's five offensive rebounds, Alabama State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 14 second chance points.

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 43-29 heading into halftime.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 96-64. Alabama State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 22 of its 35 total points.
