MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University's men's tennis team secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday afternoon, with Flor De Sitter's crucial singles win at court four delivering the decisive point. The match unfolded at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center, where both teams battled intensely over three hours in front of an engaged crowd of 151 spectators.
The Hornets began the day strong in doubles competition, sweeping all three matches to claim an early 1-0 lead. The pairing of Gord Fran Mileusnic and Vid Maric set the tone by defeating Jami Savolainen and Guillermo Sanchez 6-4. Martin Catrice and Matteo Lataste followed with a tight 7-6 win, while Milan Ristov and Eloi Roux closed out doubles dominance with a 6-4 victory.
Singles play saw a more balanced exchange, as Auburn-Montgomery fought back to level the match. Milan Ristov continued his impressive form, defeating Giuseppe Bonaiuti 7-5, 6-2 for Alabama State, but the Warhawks' Jami Savolainen and Guillermo Sanchez responded with wins of their own to narrow the gap.
