MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball came away with a 6-3 win against the Eastern Kentucky University on Friday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The quality outing from Jorhan LaBoy (1-0) earned him the victory on the mound for Alabama State (0-0). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk, and striking out four. C. Matthews also pitched well, going three innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking one, and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. A. Malpass came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Hornets lost the lead in the third inning but scored three runs in the frame in the sixth inning. The Hornets got a two-run homer from Jackson Williams to take a 4-2 lead.
Eastern Kentucky narrowed Alabama State's lead to 4-3 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 5-3 in the seventh inning.
Alabama State held the Colonels scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. Niguel Jenkins crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Hornets, bringing the Alabama State advantage to 6-3. The score remained 6-3 for the rest of the game, as the Hornets held on for the win.
