MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 6-4 win over the Tuskegee Golden Tigers on Sunday.
Mason Quinnie (1-3) got the win out of the bullpen for Alabama State (6-11). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up two hits, one walk, and striking out one. Kohanna Pousson also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none, and striking out four.
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by A. Cox-Cole, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. M. Owens came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Golden Tigers then tied the ballgame at one before the Hornets came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. The Alabama State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run fly out off the bat of B. Cook, which brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Tuskegee narrowed Alabama State's lead to 5-4 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 6-4 in the fourth inning. The score remained 6-4 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win.
