Softball Falls to No. 5 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. | Alabama State University softball ran into a historic offensive outburst Thursday as No. 5 University of Oklahoma rolled to a 32-0 victory in five innings at Love's Field.

The Sooners (14-2) plated 11 runs in the first inning and never slowed, scoring in every frame behind 23 hits, including multiple home runs and 12 walks drawn from Alabama State pitching.

Despite the lopsided result, the Hornets (6-12) collected four hits, led by center fielder Jaibrel Terrell, who accounted for half of the team's offense with a 2-for-3 performance. Jaibrel Terrell recorded singles in the third and fifth innings, consistently putting the ball in play against a dominant Oklahoma staff.

McKenzie Owens and Ayana Frank added one hit each for Alabama State, which stranded six runners and went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.

Oklahoma's lineup proved relentless from the outset. The Sooners opened the bottom of the first with a two-run homer and a three-run blast to seize an early 5-0 advantage, then sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning. They followed with six runs in the second, seven in the third and eight in the fourth to invoke the run rule.

Kohana Pousson (3-2) took the loss for Alabama State after allowing eight runs in the opening inning. Amanda Cintron and Mason Quinnery saw extended relief action, while Kaitlyn Hill recorded the final out in the fourth.

Oklahoma pitcher Allyssa Parker earned the win, combining with reliever Brooklyn Zache to limit Alabama State to four hits while striking out seven.

Alabama State returns to action against Sam Houston State 11:30 a.m. and Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
