TROY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball fell to Troy University 14-2 on Tuesday at Riddle-Pace Field.
Caleb Sanders (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (12-15). Freshman Jayden Torres was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking four and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by Devin Chandler, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 9-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Junior Breydon Divine came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Trojans expanded their lead to 11-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Junior Niguel Jenkins came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the score to 11-2 in favor of the Trojans. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Troy added three runs to their tally on the way to a 14-2 final.
