JACKSONVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama State softball team struggled on Tuesday, falling to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 11-3 at Jana McGinnis Field.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by Meshayla Pettaway, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and an RBI. Talee Sims compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State plated two runs off of Jacksonville State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Pettaway.
The Hornets lost the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 4-2. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Sims, which tightened the Gamecocks lead to 4-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Jacksonville State added seven runs to their tally on the way to an 11-3 final.
