Simpso's Late Basket Lifts 'Bama State Women's Hoops Past Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Caylee Simpson's layup with 13 seconds remaining to lift Alabama State University Women's Basketball to a pivotal 65-63 victory over Southern on Tuesday night inisde the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Simpson's basket capped a back-and-forth fourth quarter that featured four ties in the final five minutes. After Southern evened the score at 63-all on a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left, Alabama State cleared out for Simpson, who attacked off the dribble and converted through contact to give the Hornets the lead for good.

Southern's final possession resulted in a contested jumper at the buzzer that rimmed off, securing the two-point win for Alabama State.

Simpson finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, shooting 6-of-11 from the field. She was one of three Hornets in double figures.
