TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Despite picking up seven hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Florida A&M, Alabama State was unable to push across more runs, as the Hornets fell to the Rattlers 7-3 Friday.
Kaitlyn Hill (1-8) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (14-27). Kohana Pousson was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 4.1 innings, surrendering three runs, two earned, on three hits, walking one and striking out three.
In the batter's box, Jaibriel Terrell paced the Hornets, going 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Alana Scott also had a noteworthy day at the dish, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Meshayla Pettaway also helped out for Alabama State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State scratched across a run off Z. Hughes when Terrell tripled in JaNiyah Boykin.
The Hornets kept the deficit at 4-1 before closing the gap further in the fifth. Pettaway came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which tightened the Rattlers lead to 4-2.
Florida A&M built their lead to 7-2 before the Alabama State offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 7-3 in the seventh. The Hornets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of . The ballgame ended with that seventh-inning rally falling short.
