MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University rallied in dramatic fashion on Thursday, using a two-run double from
Bailee Williams in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 5-4 victory over Jackson State University in a resumed contest originally halted on April 4.
The game picked up with Jackson State holding a 4-3 advantage in the top of the seventh inning. Alabama State's pitching staff kept the deficit at one, setting the stage for the late-game heroics.
Jackson State opened the scoring earlier in the contest, plating a pair of runs in the second inning and adding single runs in the fourth and sixth to build its 4-3 lead before play was suspended. Alabama State countered with a run in the third inning and two more in the fifth to stay within striking distance.
After holding Jackson State scoreless in the top half of the seventh upon resumption, Alabama State mounted its decisive rally in the bottom half. A leadoff baserunner sparked the inning before Williams delivered a clutch two-run double to the gap, bringing home the tying and winning runs to complete the comeback.
