Shortened Thursday Outing Ends with Hornets Soccer on Losing End

CONWAY, Ark. – On a Thursday evening where the Arkansas weather lit up the sky in the first half and a lighting outage forced an early conclusion to the game in the 78th minute, the Alabama State University women's soccer team fell to the Central Arkansas Bears, 7-0, at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex in the first game of a back-to-back outing in Arkansas.

The Hornets (0-5 overall) were outmatched from the jump against the Bears (1-2-1), who picked up its first win of the year after a number of tight matches against challenging opponents.

ASU only managed four shots on the afternoon, with junior Lamya Foughal putting the lone attempt on frame in the 41st minute of the contest. The Lady Hornets matched a season high with five corner kicks, but the stingy Bears defense continued to protect its zone throughout the night.

In the box, backup rookie keeper Slater Copeland took the pitch in the sixth minute and played the remaining 72 minutes, making three saves while allowing five of the seven goals on the evening.

The Lady Hornets will look to get on track as it stays in Arkansas for a meeting with the Arkansas State Red Wolves at the A-State Soccer Complex on Sunday, August 30, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. in Jonesboro.
