TROY, Ala. – The Alabama State University volleyball team wrapped up its three-day tournament in eastern Alabama on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Troy Trojans, 3-0, in the final game of the Troy Trojan Invitational inside Trojan Arena.
The Hornets (0-3 overall) fell in straight sets (15-25, 15-25, 11-25) to its Sun Belt Conference foes in the Trojans (2-1), who were effective on both the attacking front and on the service line this afternoon.
Not a lot of momentum went the way of the visitors, as ASU could only hang its hat on a three-point run in the first frame with
Taylor Williams serving and a four-point run to stay alive, as Troy had 24 points and
Emani Green controlled the serve.
Mikalah Davis had two of the team's three aces on back-to-back serves in the first frame, while Alabama State led the game with four blocks on the afternoon – two by way of junior
Alexis Williams, who led the team with five kills and a .231 hitting mark.
Kamrynn Clay had 10 of the team's 15 set assists, and libero
Mirra Riddle totaled nine digs in defeat.
The Lady Hornets set its sight on next weekend's Spartan Classic, hosted on the campus of South Carolina-Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C., where it will face UNC Wilmington (Sept. 3 at 6 p.m.), West Florida (Sept. 4 at noon) and USC Upstate (Sept. 4 at 4 p.m.) inside the G.B. Hodge Center.
