BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Setter Kamrynn Clay and libero Mirra Riddle of the Alabama State University women's volleyball team were each recognized as the top performers at their positions in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) for their respective performances in three matches this past weekend, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

As SWAC play comes one week closer, it is evident that things are starting to click for the Hornets both as a team and with individual players, as Clay collects her second consecutive Setter of the Week honor while Riddle picks up her first Defensive Player of the Week honor after being named Newcomer of the Week this time last week. This comes after Alabama State posted a 2-1 record at the home ISTAP Collegiate Cup Tournament, securing 3-1 victories over South Carolina State and Nicholls State for its first victories of the season.

Clay showed out in her 2026 home debut, posting 109 assists across 11 sets for an average of 9.91 assists per set as she improved on her numbers for a second straight weekend. Her best performance came in a four-set victory over South Carolina State, as she had 42 assists without an error, adding 13 digs, four kills and a block assist in the team's first game of the weekend.

The Saint Hedwig, Texas, native holds the SWAC's top spot in both total assists (292) and assists per set (8.34), improving on her career-best mark of 7.72 from her conference Setter of the Year campaign a season ago. She also sits second on the team in service aces (10) and is tied for third with 10 total blocks on the year.

Riddle played another stellar week for the Lady Hornets, as the reigning SWAC Newcomer of the Week tallied 47 digs for an average of 4.27 digs per set while receiving opposing attacks at an 88 percent success rate. Her best game also came in the weekend-opener against South Carolina State, as the junior libero finished the four-game victory with 19 digs, three service aces and a pair of assists. She also had 13 digs and three assists in the team's win over Nicholls State.

The North Bend, Ore., native continues to build her Hornet resume since transferring in from Lane College in Oregon, as she sits second in the conference in total digs (131) while placing fifth in digs per set (3.74) on the campaign.

The Lady Hornets hit the road for its final tournament of the season, as they will compete in the Florida Atlantic Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. It is set to face the tournament host Lady Owls in its first (Sept. 18 at 11 a.m.) and final (Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.) games of the weekend, with a Saturday morning meeting against Stetson (Sept. 19 at 11 a.m.) also featured in the three-match weekend as the team gears up for conference play the following week.
