Dominique Stevenson

Dominique Stevenson is in his fourth season on the Alabama State coaching staff, his second coaching the Hornets linebackers.

Stevenson has molded the Hornets linebackers into one of the top linebacking corps in the SWAC.  Last season the three starting linebackers were ASU’s top three tacklers.  Kourtney Berry led the Hornets and was second in the SWAC with 105 tackles, Leland Baker’s 88 stops had him tied for 10th in the SWAC, and Daerius Washington was 14th with 82 total tackles.

Under Stevenson’s leadership, Kourtney Berry turned his freshman season into a year which saw him named the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Year and a First-Team All-SWAC performer.

Stevenson spent his first two seasons as the Hornets' safeties coach, helping Kejuan Riley to becomehttp://beecoup-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png the school's all-time leader in interceptions with 21 and earning Consensus All-America honors.

Stevenson came to Alabama State after spending two years as an intern coach at LSU, where he helped mentor linebacker Perry Riley, who was a fourth-round NFL draft pick in 2010 to the Washington Redskins, 2011 NFL first-round draft pick defensive back Patrick Peterson with the Arizona Cardinals, who also was a First Team All-SEC selection and Thorpe Award Winnerhttp://beecoup-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png, and freshman All-American Tyrann Mathieu, who went on to be a fourth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals.
Stevenson went to LSU after working the 2008 season at Southern Methodist Universityhttp://beecoup-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png, where he was a volunteer linebackers coach.

After being drafted in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft, Stevenson played parts of five seasons (2002-06) with the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins.

A four-year letterman and three-year starter at the University of Tennessee (1997-2001), Stevenson won a national championship with the Volunteers in 1998, and was a second-team All-SEC selection as a senior.

He attended Gaffney High in Gaffney, S.C., and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BA degree inhttp://beecoup-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png Urban Studies in 2001.

He is married to his wonderful wife Angela, and they are the proud parents of two sons, Dominique and Jacob-Zion.
