Roy Dawkins enters his second season coaching the Hornets' defensive backs. In his first year, he helped Saeed Lee to post a career-high five interceptions and earn HBCU All-America honors by Boxtorow.com

Dawkins came to ASU from Northview High School in Dothan where he spent the  four seasons coaching the defensive line and the defensive backs. He also spent two seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Before moving to Dothan, Dawkins spent two seasons coaching the defensive backs at Raines High School in Jacksonville, Fla., for former head coach and now current ASU defensive coordinator Cedric Thornton. While at Raines, he coached current former ASU defensive back standout, Donovan Masline.

Dawkins is no stranger to the Montgomery area. A 1999 graduate of Alabama State University, Dawkins spent his first four coaching seasons at Hayneville High School, where he was the defensive coordinator for two years. He spent his final two seasons at Hayneville as head coach.

The 2002-03 season brought Dawkins back to Montgomery as defensive backs coach at Lanier High School. He moved to Huntingdon College as defensive backs coach during the 2003-05 seasons.

Dawkins spent his entire college career with the Hornets (1993-96), becoming a three-year starter in the defensive backfield. Following his playing days, he started his coaching career with Alabama State where he served as a student assistant in 1997. He graduated from ASU with a degree in Physical Education.

Dawkins is the proud father of one daughter, Brittany.
