Joe Wright

Joe Wright enters his third season at Alabama State as the Director of Football Operations after joining the Hornets for the 2019-20 academic year, after serving a term with the Baltimore City Public School System.

Prior to his term with the Baltimore City Public School System, Wright was the Director of Football Operations / Assistant Coach at Morgan State from 2004 until 2012. He managed an operational budget of $3 million to support athletic scholarships, academic advising, travel and equipment contracts; procured all office supplies, equipment, and service contracts. He also created Excel spreadsheets to ensure accuracy of expenditures; conducted quarterly financial audits of revenue and expenditures to comply with department, state regulations; while he also managed contract negotiations with vendors to provide logistical services; planned travel trips which included negotiating hotel room and catering contracts, scheduling logistics, air and bus travel, meals and away practice sites.

Wright executed all aspects of daily operations: scheduled all team and staff meetings, community outreach projects, life skills seminars, and student-athlete development programs; while he also served as liaison with Athletic Compliance, Business and Auxiliary Services, University Comptroller, Athletic Media Relations, and Student Activities to service the needs of the student-athletes and football program.
 
He was designated to advise and coach the student-athletes and parents on the financial aid application process, loan applications as well as alternate funding options; while he supervised a staff of six Graduate and Student Assistants to ensure execution of daily tasks within department standards
 
PERSONAL
Wright earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Masters of Science of Business Administration from Morgan State University. He was named the 2006 PHH Outstanding Graduate and was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He was also the Class of 2004 Senior Class Vice President and a member of the Athletic Retention Committee.

He is an active member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
