Lonnie Brown enters his second season overseeing the Strength and Conditioning department at Alabama State University, joining the staff in January 2019.
He came to Alabama State following a two-year stint at Alabama A&M as the Director of Strength and Conditioning. While at Alabama A&M, Brown designed, implemented and monitored strength and conditioning programs for multiple Olympic sport programs. Brown promotes activities and coping methods that transform unhealthy habits and fuel healthy minds and bodies.
Brown oversees the daily strength & conditioning regimens for the Hornets’ football program. He also oversees the other 17 sports at Alabama State University, which consist of nearly 400 student-athletes. The Hornet strength and conditioning staff consist of one full-time staff member and two post-graduate intern strength & conditioning coaches.
A 2016 graduate of the University of Alabama, Brown served as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at his alma mater before heading to Alabama A&M. At Alabama, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education-Exercise and Sports Science. Brown specialized in defensive lineman skills and technique, contributing to Alabama’s 2015 National Championship. The Webb, Alabama native also worked with Women’s Basketball and Baseball during his time in Tuscaloosa. Brown applied trigger point therapy with student athletes and accomplished physical testing, body composition, anaerobic and aerobic tests.
He is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is CPR certified through the American Heart Association.
