Tyrone Rogers

Former Hornet player Tyrone Rogers is in his fifth season as defensive line coach. The same position he played for six years in the National Football League.

In 2010, the Hornets ranked second in the conference with 29 sacks. DE Jimmy Daniels tied for the team lead with 5.0 sacks and led the SWAC with 18.0 tackles for loss. Daniels ranked sixth in the FCS with 1.8 tackles per loss per game.

Rogers made history in 1999 as a member of the reborn Cleveland Browns. One of the NFL’s most storied franchises, the Browns had been dormant since the 1995 season when the franchise relocated to Baltimore.

Rogers spent his entire career with the Browns, posting his best year in 2001 when he recorded 40 tackles and six sacks, along with forcing one fumble.

A standout player at Alabama State, Rogers was a preseason All-American prior to his senior season in 1998 and lived up to the billing, finishing the year with 63 tackles, including a team-high 15 tackles for loss.

Rogers and his wife, Vonita, have four children — Alexis, Taylor, Tynia and Tai.
