Sam Lazarus

Sam Lazarus, who has been a part of the Alabama State University community since, 2013, is in his fifth season on the Alabama State University football staff as the Director of Player Development.
 
Lazarus’ roles as the Director of Player Development are to:
  • Create and implement individual development plans to ensure student-athletes needs are addressed and met as related to academics and personal goals.
  • Ensure effective and efficient operations to enhance the success of the football program.
  • Help develop and monitor the conditioning and training program to enhance individual and team potential. Help guide and promote the academic success of student-athletes. And provide a positive atmosphere conducive to the social and academic growth of the student-athlete.
Before rejoining the ASU Football staff, Lazarus was a Technical Services Specialist in the ASU Office of Technology Services (2021-2022), Player Football Personnel Coordinator and Quality Control (2018-2021), and worked as a District Recruiter in the ASU Recruitment office (2017-2018).

As an I.T Specialist, Lazarus Assisted the Athletic department and serve as the I.T liaison between departments. His duties included completing Mac and PC hardware maintenance and basic repairs for the Athletic Department,  delivering schedule maintenance services specifically for he  athletic department. He also initiated improvements to raise the quality and efficiency of service to end-users and tracked software licenses  to ensure the Athletic Department compliance with University software license requirements.

As football Player Personnel Coordinator, Lazarus assisted the head coach as an academic liaison between the department and students while helping with recruiting and player evaluations, conducted daily implementation of team practice and game day operations and assisted student-athletes with compliance, student services, strength, and conditioning, travel plans, facilities, housing, and legal matters.

As an ASU recruiter, Lazarus helped the department analyze and provide insights into customer behavior throughout the student life cycle and in response to marking initiatives. He also assisted in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to new and continuous transfer students.
 
Lazarus served a one-year coaching internship with the Alabama State basketball team, where he assisted in player/team marketing. He also assisted in scouting and coordination of team practice while handling game day coverage and served as a secondary point of contact between the team and the league office, officials, and other teams.
 
A native of Nigeria, Lazarus received a nautical science certificate from Regional Maritime University before earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education and coaching and Masters degree in information technology from ASU.
