Drew Wilson joined the Alabama State men’s basketball staff for the 2026-27 season under first-year head coach Chris Wright.
Wilson comes to Alabama State from Wallace State in Hanceville, Ala., where he was an assistant coach for two seasons. The Lions achieved new heights with Wilson helping direct the offense, as the team reached the NJCAA National Tournament in 2025 after sweeping the ACCC regular season and postseason titles. He assisted Wallace State to a top-15 nationally ranked offense, while he helped in the development of four All-Conference student-athletes.
Before Wallace State, Wilson spent three seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Arkansas State University. He was instrumental in managing daily scheduling, travel arrangements, budget oversight, media relations, and NCAA compliance logs for the Red Wolves. During his time at Arkansas State, the team achieved its most wins and first winning conference record in five years, reaching the Sun Belt Conference Championship game, and seeing players named as both the Sun Belt Player of the Year and Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year.
Wilson served as the lead assistant coach at Faulkner University for seven seasons, aiding the team to a 122-62 record that included three NAIA National Tournament appearances. Wilson’s coaching and recruiting efforts paid dividends to the team’s success, as the Eagles saw ten student-athletes collect NAIA All-American honors and nearly two dozen players earn All-Conference selections.
Wilson entered the full-time coaching world as an Associate Head Coach/Assistant Coach at Snead State Community College from 2012 to 2014, where his efforts resulted in several players advancing to NCAA Division I programs and other four-year institutions.
A graduate of Mercer University, Wilson served his alma mater as a student assistant and graduate assistant on head coach Bob Hoffman's staff, helping the Bears to some of their most successful years in the program's history.
Wilson earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management and Marketing from Mercer in 2011, and graduated with an Executive Master’s of Business Administration in 2018.
