Kevin Missouri joined the Alabama State staff prior to the 2018-19 season, coming to the Hornets from Texas Southern University.
While at Texas Southern, Missouri helped lead the Tigers to three Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season championships from 2015-2017, and three SWAC tournament championships (2015, 2017-18) that earned the team a berth in the NCAA Tournament. In his final year at Texas Southern (2018), he helped the Tigers to a win in the NCAA First Four and in his second year, the Tigers earned a bid to the NIT.
As a special assistant and video coordinator with Texas Southern, Missouri helped recruit 2016-17 SWAC Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and AP Honorable Mention All-American Zach Lofton.
Prior to his arrival at Texas Southern, Missouri served as an assistant coach at Cal State-Bakersfield from 2011 until his departure for Texas Southern in 2014. While at CSU-Bakersfield, Missouri coached Stephon Carter – the school’s all-time leader in program history – and helped recruit and develop Issiah Grayson – a 2014 First Team All-WAC Tournament selection. He also helped recruit and develop Tyrone White, who signed a professional contract to play in Europe.
Missouri got his start at the College of Alameda as an assistant basketball coach for a year where he was responsible for skill development and coordinating the team’s defensive strategies. He monitored the academic progress of the student-athletes and completed various administrative tasks before moving on to UAB to serve as a graduate assistant. While at UAB, he assisted in player development and led individual workouts, and conducted film breakdown.
He holds an Associate degree from Ventura College in Business Management, while earning his Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from Patten University. Missouri went on to earn his Master’s degree in Public Administration from Texas Southern.
