Michael Curry enters his second season as a member of the Hornets coaching staff. However he is no stranger to the program, as he is a graduate of Alabama State University.
During his first season with the Hornets he helped guide ASU to a 19-13 overall record and an invitation to the CollegeInsider.com (CIT) post season tournament.
Curry comes to ASU after spending the previous seven seasons at nearby Troy University. Curry was instrumental in the Trojans’ rise in the Sun Belt Conference, culminating in Troy’s first Sun Belt title in 2010.
Before joining the Trojans staff, the Selma, Alabama native spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville, Fla.
Before starting his collegiate coaching career, Curry spent four seasons as head basketball coach at Robert E. Lee High in Montgomery. While at Lee, he saw six players receive college basketball scholarships and coached the Metro Montgomery 6A player of the year, Ephraim Hudson.
Curry played collegiately at Chattahoochee Valley Community College and at Georgia Southwestern College before receiving his bachelor’s in physical education from Alabama State University.
A graduate of Selma High, Curry played basketball and ran track. As a senior, he was voted the basketball team’s Most Valuable Player and finished third in the state in the high jump. He was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, but grew up in numerous parts of the world, as his dad was in the U.S Air Force.
Curry has three brothers and a sister.
