Mike Scott

Mike Scott joined the Alabama State University men’s basketball staff for the 2026-27 season under head coach Chris Wright.

Prior to arriving to Montgomery, Scott was a member of the CSU Bakersfield men’s basketball coaching staff for nine seasons, serving as an assistant coach of the Roadrunners for eight years before being named Acting Head Coach on Sept. 25, 2025.

In Scott’s first eight years in Bakersfield, the `Runners produced eleven All-Conference honorees, including two First Team members. In the classroom, the `Runners also enjoyed nine Academic All-Conference nods in Scott’s tenure.

The 2018-19 season saw CSUB return to the postseason, as Bakersfield accepted an invitation to the CollegeInisder.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and proved to be a force on the road. CSUB won a pair of games and reached the CIT Quarterfinal round to close out the season.

Prior to his arrival in Bakersfield, Scott spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas (2015-17). During his time with the Dragons, Scott recruited two NJCAA All-Region 14 honorees and eight student-athletes who would graduate and attend NCAA Division I schools.

During the 2014-15 season, Scott was an assistant coach at Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas, where he recruited two All-Conference players while aiding the Dust Devils to the Heartland Conference Championship that year.

Scott was also an assistant at Wayland Baptist (Texas) where the Pioneers would claim two conference championships and the first-ever conference tournament title in school history. Prior to the 2013-14 season, Scott spent the 2012-13 season at his alma mater, Fairleigh Dickinson. Scott began his coaching career as an assistant coach for Midland College in the spring of 2012.

Scott spent time playing professionally in Germany after a successful two-year career at Division 1 Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J.), where he would graduate in 2011 with a degree in media communications. While playing for the Knights, Scott averaged 13.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game and was named to the Preseason All-Northeast Conference Team prior to his senior season.

Prior to FDU, Scott played at the College of Eastern Utah for his sophomore season, helping lead the Golden Eagles to a 25-7 record that included a 14-game win streak. He averaged 8.5 points and 4.6 assists per game, earning him honorable mention all-conference. Scott attended TCU his freshman season, where he played in 29 games.

Scott and his wife have a son.
