Alabama State junior guard TJ Madlock was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week for week one of the 2023-24 season following his performances against Ole Miss and Iowa.
 
Madlock averaged 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the first two games of the season for the Hornets in road losses to Ole Miss and Iowa. The junior guard scored in double figures in both games including a season-high 23 points against Iowa. He finished the night shooting 40.9 (9-of-22) percent from the floor and 83.3 (5-of-6) percent from the free throw line.
 
He also grabbed six rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and recorded two steals. In the season opener, Madlock scored 12 points on 33.3 (4-of-12) percent from the floor and 66.7 (4-of-6) percent from the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out three assists.
