Montgomery, Ala-- The Alabama State Lady Hornets were defeated by Mississippi Valley State Sunday afternoon in three sets 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 at Lockhart Gymnasium. The match was the conference opener for both teams.
Despite ASU's strong team effort, the squad was unable to overcome the play of the Devilettes' Maura Moed, who finished with 13 kills, five blocks and one service ace.
The Lady Hornets were led by junior
Althea Russell's nine kills.
Jessica Holt added eight kills, three blocks and one service ace for ASU. Junior
Sierra Caudle also played well finishing with seven kills, ten digs, two service aces and one block.

Kelsye Hall dished out 20 assist and also tallied two kills while defensive specialist Rose Cornielle chipped in 20 digs for the Lady Hornets.
The Lady Hornets next participate in the South Carolina State Spikefest Friday and Saturday in Orangeburg, S.C.
