BATON ROUGE, La. -- Menji Mundadi matched a career-high with 29 points and Tramayne Moorer added a career-best 22 points as Alabama State University collected a 77-60 victory over Southern University Monday night at the Mini-Dome.

The Hornets (8-10, 5-2 SWAC) connected on 10 three-pointers, including seven by Mundadi, en route to posting their fourth consecutive win. The victory also marked the eighth straight ASU win over Southern.

The loss was the fifth in a row for the Jaguars, who dropped to 3-17 overall and 1-7 in conference play. Julius Ingram and Doug Scott both finished with 18 points to lead SU. Ingram had a perfect shooting night, going 7-7 from the floor and 4-4 at the free throw line while Scott posted a double-double after also pulling down 12 rebounds.

“We came on this road trip looking to win two games,” said ASU head coach Lewis Jackson. “It was nice to do the things we needed to do to accomplish that goal. We haven't played great recently but I'm proud of the effort we have been getting from the guys. Hopefully, we can continue to build on this success.”

ASU started sluggishly on offense as Southern raced out to an 11-4 lead through the opening four minutes of the game. SU held onto the lead until the midpoint of the first period when the Hornets torched the nets from beyond the three-point line hitting five straight from long distance.

Mundadi connected on back-to-back treys giving Bama State its first lead, 16-15, at the 10:00 mark. Following a basket by Southern, Mundadi drilled two more threes and Ivory White also made a trey capping a 15-2 run for the Hornets.

The Hornets continued their solid shooting for the remainder of the first half outscoring the Jags, 14-2, over the final four minutes to build a 42-23 halftime advantage.

Alabama State pushed its lead to over 20 points early in the second half and maintained a comfortable margin for much of the remainder of the game. The Jaguars mounted a late charge using an 11-2 run to trim their deficit to just 10 points, 67-57, with 3:38 left to play.

However, the Hornets refused to get flustered finishing the game with a 10-3 surge.

Alabama State next returns to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for a pair of key SWAC home contests that complete the opening half of the league schedule. ASU hosts Texas Southern Saturday at 5 p.m. before welcoming Prairie View next Monday at 6 p.m. for another ESPNU broadcast.
