Wright Finalizes Alabama State Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University head men's basketball coach Chris Wright has finalized his inaugural coaching staff for the 2026-27 season.

Wright adds assistant coaches Drew Wilson, Mike Scott, Justin Graham, and Rosbie Mutcherson Jr. to the Hornets' program while retaining James "JJ" Jackson and Damian Madison from the previous coaching staff.

Wilson arrives at Alabama State after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama. During his tenure, the Lions reached new heights offensively, capturing the Alabama Community College Conference regular-season and tournament championships before advancing to the 2025 NJCAA National Tournament.

Wilson helped guide one of the nation's top-15 offenses while assisting in the development of four All-Conference selections.

Prior to Wallace State, Wilson served three seasons as director of basketball operations at Arkansas State. During his time with the Red Wolves, the program posted its highest win total and first winning Sun Belt Conference record in five years, advanced to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game, and produced both the Sun Belt Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

Scott joins the Hornets after spending nine seasons on the Cal State Bakersfield coaching staff. He served as an assistant coach for eight seasons before being promoted to acting head coach on Sept. 25, 2025.

During his tenure with the Roadrunners, Scott helped coach 11 All-Conference selections, including two first-team honorees. Off the court, the program earned nine Academic All-Conference selections.

Graham comes to Montgomery after one season at Ole Miss and two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas Permian Basin. Before joining UTPB, he spent the 2022-23 season at Clarendon College in Texas, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 25-5 record and an appearance in the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Graham directed the program's strength and conditioning efforts while overseeing student-athlete academic development.

Mutcherson joins Alabama State after one season at Central Georgia Technical College, where he helped guide the Titans to a 24-7 record and a runner-up finish in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

Before Central Georgia Tech, Mutcherson spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Utah Valley and previously held coaching positions at Idaho State, Salt Lake Community College, and Northwest Florida State College.

During his three seasons coaching at the NJCAA level, Mutcherson was part of two NJCAA Elite Eight appearances and three consecutive region and conference championships. He also helped develop three NJCAA First Team All-Americans and one National Player of the Year.
