MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Lady Hornets volleyball team used an impressive offensive performance to pick up an important conference victory 3-0 over Alcorn State. The 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 win improves Alabama States SWAC record to 2-2 and 9-13 overall. Alcorn State fell to 0-9, 0-4 in the conference.
"We served very well tonight and our outside hitters were able to score," said head coach Sonia Price following the match. "It was critical for us to win in three games against Alcorn State."
Alabama State hit .372 as a team with outside hitter Brena Wheeler leading the way with a .500 hitting percentage on an error free 7 kills in 14 attempts. Outside hitters Asia Manning and Althea Russell tallied six kills apiece. On serve, Russell notched a game high of seven aces while Jessica Lindsey and Sandrieka Wilkins added five kills apiece in the Alcorn victory.
Junior Ana Pego once again assisted the Lady with over 32 assists and five digs she also added three block assists to her numbers. Wilkins averaged a perfect 1.00 percent with teammates Pego and Tylisa Hendrix both averaging .500 both being error free.
The Lady Hornets will be back in action Friday and Saturday October 15-16 as they participate in the Southern University Tournament in Baton Rouge, La.
