ASU SOCCER DOWNS RIVAL ALABAMA A&M
Montgomery, Ala. – The Alabama State University Soccer team defeated Alabama A&M for the first time in the program's history. The final from Hornet Stadium was 2-1.
ASU scored at the 11:30 mark of the first period when Monique Sylvester assisted Danielle Miller with the first goal of the match. The lady hornets got their second goal unassisted from Stephanie Howard. It came during the second period at the 58:17 mark of the contest.
“It feels good to get this first conference victory of the season out of the way”. Said head coach Jodie Smith. “This was a division game so it obviously was big for us”.
Alabama A&M put up a solid fight, battling back with a goal of their own from forward Jazzmine Maclin. Maclin's goal for the lady bulldogs brought the score to within one but ASU's defense was the answer the rest of the way.
“We had to battle all night” Coach Smith mentioned. “I'm pleased that we were finally able to close a match out from an offensive and defensive perspective. ASU outshot A&M 16-9. Chelsea Nash led the lady Hornets with five saves on the night.
The ASU Soccer team will return to action October 17th when they host Grambling State at 1pm from Hornet Stadium. Admission is free.
