Final Boxscore

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- The Alabama State University men's basketball team scored a season low in a disappointing 47-42 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Hornets (9-13, 6-5 SWAC) dropped their third straight game after shooting just 28 percent (12-42) from the field against the Golden Lions (8-14, 8-3 SWAC). The loss snapped a nine-game win streak for ASU against UAPB and marks the first three-game SWAC losing streak for the Hornets since February of the 2005-06 season.

Menji Mundadi scored a game-high 17 points including four three-pointers to lead the Hornets. Byron Walker also chipped in 11 in the loss.

Tavaris Washington finished with 16 points for the Lions followed by 11 from Tyree Glass. Lebaron Weathers pulled down 10 rebounds in helping UAPB to a 37-21 advantage on the boards.

After five lead changes over the first six minutes of the game, Alabama State's offensive went cold as the Hornets went scoreless for nearly eight minutes. Pine Bluff scored 10 straight points during the ASU drought to build a 15-7 advantage with 7:22 left in the half.

The Golden Lions led by as many as nine points in the opening half and held a 23-14 advantage at the break. The 14 points was the lowest output in a half for the Hornets this season. ASU made just 5-of-19 (26 percent) from the floor in the first half and committed 12 turnovers while UAPB shot 35 percent and finished with 10 miscues.

Both teams struggled to start the second half combining for seven turnovers and a 1-for-8 shooting performance over the first five minutes. The Lions continued to hold a lead and Mundadi scored eight straight points for ASU to keep the Hornets in the game.

With UAPB up by 10 with 3:53 remaining, the Hornets mounted a final charge behind a furious full-court attack. Sekani Milligen drilled a three-pointer to open a 10-3 run for ASU that included back-to-back baskets by Walker and another trey for Mundadi. The surge allowed Bama State to get within three points, 41-38, with 2:05 left in the game.

After trading free throws, Pine Bluff used a three-point play by Washington in the final minute to secure the victory.

ASU shot 28.6 percent from the field for the game and committed 20 turnovers. Pine Bluff connected at a 36 percent pace and finished with 24 turnovers while also going 20-26 from the free throw line.
