ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Alabama State University football program was presented the Most Improved Academic Progress Rate (APR) Award by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) at a luncheon Tuesday in conjunction with the annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention.
This marked the inaugural year for FCS ADA to recognize one institution at each of the 14 FCS conferences for both the highest APR score and the most improved from the previous year.
ASU earned the SWAC's most improved recognition for the 2008-09 year while Mississippi Valley garnered the league's highest APR score.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) member colleges and universities adopted the comprehensive academic reform package designed to improve the academic successes and graduation of all student athletes. The centerpiece of the package is the academic measurement for teams, known as the APR.
The FCS ADA is in its 17th year of existence with a mission to enhance Football Championship Subdivision football. For more information about the organization or the award visit: www.fcsada.com.
