NORMAL, Ala. - Alabama A&M had three to score in double figures and ASU's shot at winning nine in a row over their arch rival fell short on the road in a 75-60 loss to the Bulldogs. The last time Alabama State suffered a loss to AAMU was the 2006-2007 season.
Jeffery Middlebrooks hit a three from the corner at the 16:41 mark of the first half and ASU led by seven. However this was a game that only saw two lead changes and the game was also only tied twice. Chris Duncan led all scorers with 17 points going 6-6 from the field.
Duncan was the only player for the hornets with a hot hand. “It was another night in which we didn't make shots”. Head coach Lewis Jackson said. “This has always been a hostile environment to play in and we didn't respond”. Coach Jackson said. Tramaine Butler came off of the bench to score 13 points for ASU. Ivory White chipped in eight meanwhile Jeff Middlebrooks and Kenderek Washington both scored seven apiece.
“I felt like we weren't physical at times tonight”. Coach Jackson said. “A&M really made their presence felt in the post against us”. AAMU was led by Demarquelle Tabb and Johnathan Inman who both score 16 points for the Bulldogs. Casey Cantey finished with 10. The loss drops ASU to 5-13 and 2-3 in the SWAC. AAMU upped their record to 7-8 and 3-2 in the conference.
The ASU Men's and Women's teams will host Southern University from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday. That game is schedule to start at 5:30 pm.
