MONTGOMERY, Ala. –  Tramaine Butler scored 13 points and Dwayne Harvey came off the bench to score eight points as ASU came from a 15-point second half deficit to defeat Grambling State 50-47 in Southwestern Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

ASU trailed 28-15 at halftime and after a Rupert Rose's layup to start the second half, ASU trailed 30-15.
Robert Sanders started a 21-7 run over the next 10:15 to not only get back in the game, but take the lead on Harvey's three-point basket with 9:29 left in the game.

From there the two teams battled back and forth with five ties over the final few minutes of the game.

Harvey game ASU the lead for good with a put back layup with 1:36 left in the game. A.J. Spencer and Butler combined to knock down three of four free throws in the final few seconds to keep the visitors from coming from behind. The come from behind win gave ASU their first SWAC victory of this young season at The Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

ASU's defense was again strong as they forced 20 GSU turnovers scoring 20 points off them. Harvey, a freshman guard, provided a spark off of the bench for the hornets with his eight points as ASU's bench outscored GSU's bench 35-15.

“Our bench gave us a lot of energy tonight” Head coach Lewis Jackson said. “Dwayne has worked hard in practice and he came in and gave us some quality minutes tonight”. Jackson said.

Both Shareif Adamu and Ivory White contributed seven points apiece. Chris Duncan scored four points but he grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots for ASU.

The win improves ASU's record to 4-11 overall and 1-1 in the SWAC. Grambling dropped to 2-12 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.

“We knew coming into this game tonight that we didn't want to start the conference season off 0-2”. Jackson said. “Winning at home is important and that's what we did here tonight”.

Justin Patton led all scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Grambling.   ASU travels to Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday and Mississippi Valley State on Monday.
