Montgomery, Ala. – The Alabama State volleyball team has been nothing less than stellar in conference play this season so far. Coming off a three set heart-breaking defeat this past weekend against SWAC Eastern Division opponent Jackson State, the Lady Hornets will look to bounce-back against conference foe Alabama A&M on Wednesday night at Lockhart gymnasium.
Led by outside hitter and freshman stand-out
Maya Bell, ASU's offense has tallied 1060 kills on the season which is 30 less than their opponents, but in total attacks, the Lady Hornets have outhit its opponents by 325 with 3059 going into Wednesday night's match up.
“Traditionally, any event against Alabama A&M is always a huge rival, therefore we will continue this great tradition,” said head coach
Penny Lucas-White. “However, it's a conference match that we want to win. We came up short against Jackson State, so we are ready to play hard tomorrow.”
The Lady Hornets also have been playing solid on the defensive end of the game as well.
Roselande Corneille continued her aggressive play as she had a stellar performance against Jackson State as she tallied 10 digs and scorched 10 kills.
“Rose, who is doing well in every aspect of the game,” said Coach White. "Senior setter
Ana Pego, who's increased her assist per set, is doing some great things in the setting department for us.”
“I believe in the old cliché that defense wins games, and having sophomore libero
Luiza Griz in the back court passing and defending the ball has been a plus for us as well. Luiza played a phenomenal match for us against Jackson State and I believe she will bring that same intensity back tomorrow night, we're in good shape.”
The first set is slated for 7 p.m.
