ASU Soccer to host Prairie View for Senior Day

Montgomery, Ala. – The Alabama State soccer team (2-15-1 overall and 1-2-1 SWAC) will host Prairie View A&M in its final game of the season at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 at Hornets Stadium in Montgomery, Ala. The Lady Panthers are approaching this contest with a record of 1-16-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play, so this match should be even. PV will look to bring energy and motivation after grasping its first conference victory over Grambling 3-0 last weekend.

“Prairie View will be one of the better teams in our conference and will be a challenge for us,” said ASU's head Coach Jodie Smith. “Scores have been similar, so we'll have our work cut out for us but I have complete confidence in the ladies that we are more than capable of getting the job done.”

With it being Senior Day, Jasmine Wilson, an Austell, Ga. native and lone senior will be honored before the start of Saturday's match. Wilson is a Business Management student and has devoted her entire career to ASU. Her 66 games played, ranks her first all-time in the history of the program. Wilson has been named to the SWAC All-Academic each year and she currently serves as President of the Alabama State's Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Alabama State soccer team downed in-state and arch rival Alabama A&M last week to secure its seed in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament starting next Thursday, November 3 in Alexandria, La. Also with the important 1-0 win over A&M, coach Smith captured win 100 to boost his coaching record to 100-185-7 overall.

“Hopefully we take some confidence from the things that we done against the Lady Bulldogs. We were effective defensively and created opportunities up front and finally cashed one in. Maybe that momentum will carry forward once we get to the conference tournament, so anything could happen.”
