75 SEASONS of ASU BASKETBALL ALONG WITH PINKZONE HIGHLIGHTS SATURDAY
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State Men's Basketball team will host Alabama A&M Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The Arch Rival is in conjunction of honoring the university's 75 years of basketball history along The WBCA Pink Zone.
The Hornets (8-16, 5-6) enter the contest with a 7-3 record at home and a two game winning streak. AAMU (10-10, 7-4) is the final game of a three-game home stand for ASU. With previous wins over Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Mississippi Valley State, this battle would solidify a sweep during the trio of games.
ASU is only two games behind AAMU currently ranked fifth in the SWAC. The last time the two schools met, The Hornets fell 75-60 in a game that was played without ASU forward and leading scorer Tramayne Moorer. Moorer is also the team's leading rebounder.
“We are starting to play our best basketball and the timing could not be better” .Head Coach Lewis Jackson mentioned”. “Both Tramaine Butler and Tramayne Moorer are starting to get healthier and having those two guys in the lineup alone certainly creates a better opportunity of winning for us”. Coach Jackson said. Butler is the second leading scorer for ASU.
Tomorrow's game will feature a celebration of 75 seasons for ASU basketball. The Hornets first season of basketball was played during the 1934-35 season. The first coach was C.J. Dunn who won 298 career games. James Oliver took over in 1979 winning 291 contest. These two men's names appear on the front of the Acadome.
Tip-off between ASU and AAMU is set for 5:30 pm. During halftime, the #32 jersey worn by Willie Scott will be retired. Fans are also encouraged to wear Pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
